Giving our tithes and offerings reflects a grateful heart that trusts God and wants to give back to Him a portion of what He has already given us. In reality, everything is already His. Tithing is a reminder that God is the provider of everything we have.

WHY WE GIVE BACK TO GOD
BIBLICAL REASONS TO GIVE
It’s a reflection of our heart:
“But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Matthew 6:20-21
What’s the most important thing to you? Our culture encourages us to store up treasures on earth and puts an unhealthy focus on materialism. As Christians, we are called to be good stewards of all that God has provided and to free ourselves from the bondage of materialism and debt so that our resources are available for His purposes.
It’s a reflection of our priorities:
“When you come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance and have taken possession of it and live in it, you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from your land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you shall put it in a basket, and you shall go to the place that the Lord your God will choose, to make his name to dwell there.” Deuteronomy 26:1-2
Long before tithing was a common practice of God’s people, both Cain and Abel brought an offering to the Lord. Abel brought the “firstborn of his flock,” while Cain brought “some of the fruits of the soil.” God blessed Abel’s offering, but rejected Cain’s because He wants to be first in our lives.
It’s a privilege:
“For in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints…”. 2 Corinthians 8:2-4
Early Christians modeled what it looks like for God’s people to give generously and joyfully for the support and expansion of the mission of the church.
It’s a blessing:
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. And thereby put me to the test, says the Lord of hosts, if I will not open the windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need.” Malachi 3:10
God sometimes blesses His people beyond their needs in order for them to be a blessing to others. He also uses those tithes and offerings as an investment where everyone involved gets a return. The church and the kingdom are blessed, and yet God’s desire is to also bless the giver.”
